Guitars & circuits

Two hand-built guitars, each with a circuit I designed: coil switching, a treble bleed, a Gilmour mod.

Two guitars, built from bare wood to the last solder joint. The circuits are the part I enjoy most: deciding what each pot and switch should do, drawing the signal path, then laying it out on the bench and soldering it before it goes into the guitar.

Guitar 1 · the semi-hollow

  • Two Seymour Duncan P-Rails pickups, each with its own on-on-on switch: P90, Rail, or both in series.
  • Two volumes (500k log) and two tones (500k linear, Orange Drop capacitors).
  • A 3-way selector: neck, both, bridge.
  • A push-pull master volume: pushed, a plain volume; pulled, it adds a treble-bleed circuit, so the guitar keeps its highs when you roll the volume down.
  • Locking tuners.

Guitar 2 · the red one

  • Three Wilkinson Alnico 2 Vintage single coils, standard Strat wiring.
  • A Gilmour mod on the neck pickup, switched by pulling the second tone knob (a push-pull pot), instead of the usual extra switch.
  • Every cavity shielded against hum.
  • Locking tuners.
